During the 20-month scholarship, the development and implementation of a student research project is the focus of activities. The topics are proposed independently by the scholarship holders and are interdisciplinary. During the research, the team members contribute their skills and continuously expand them.
The groups are encouraged to develop solutions independently. They are accompanied by supervisors (active or retired professors) and tutors, both professionally and personally.
In the initial phase of the project work, a hypothesis underlying the chosen topic must be developed and tested with scientific methods. The team then derives ideas for implementation from the research results, which have high practical relevance. Throughout the entire time, the group members contribute their expertise and deepen it at workshops and seminars.
In doing so, they acquire further interdisciplinary competencies and strengthen their soft skills.
Project News
- As a first step, we pitched our research done about our topic (target group, competition and research, deliverable was a handout) and summarized results
-
To warm up, we successfully mastered the “egg challenge” – build a package for an egg from waste paper so that it survives a fall from 2.5 meters
-
As a second step, we used many creative techniques to create as much ideas as possible, arrived at 13 “valuable” ideas and voted for 5 “final ones” for the deep dive (and idea partner)
-
During the Idea Deep Dive phase, we were challenging our ideas our with a partner (2/3 ideas per pair). Nevertheless, there was also a physical challenge: the mega-zipline!
-
We also visited Quedlinburg, one of the three World Heritage Sites in the Harz. With over 1300 half-timbered houses, it is, according to UNESCO, an exceptional example of a medieval city
-
Lastly, we discussed our now mature ideas with the tutors and then evaluated them according to relevant criteria, so that we finally came to our final idea: the Science Game.
